gang raped indian teenager kills herself

a 17yr old indian girl who was gang raped killed herself after police pressured her to drop the case and marry one of her attackers, police and a relative said on thursday.

amid the ongoing uproar over the gang rape of a student on a bus in new delhi earlier this month, the latest case has again shone the spotlight on the police handling of sex crimes.

one police officer has been sacked and another suspended over their conduct after the assault during the festival of diwali on the 13th of november in the patiala region in the punjab, according to officials.

the teenager was found dead on wednesday night after swallowing poison.

the names, addresses and photographs of convicted rapists will be posted online by police in india to publicly shame them for their crimes

inspector general paramjit singh gill said that the teenager had been “running from pillar to post to get her case registered” but officers failed to open a formal inquiry.

“one of the officers tried to convince her to withdraw the case,” gill, the police chief for the area, told AFP.

before her death, there had been no arrests over her case although three people were detained on thursday. two of them were her alleged male attackers and the third was a suspected woman accomplice.

the victims sister told indian television that the teenager had been urged to either accept a cash settlement or marry one of her attackers.

“the police started pressuring her to either reach a financial settlement with her attackers or marry one of them,” her sister told the NDTV network.

chechnya war conflict stories..

“it was unbearable. two crazy weeks and the most unbelievable story i ever did. i was with a russian special commando. they were torturing, killing and raping. i saw them do it, and i couldnt stop them. someone of a normal constitution cant accept that. i was working on the edge.

this is the morning after a night that left four men dead and 10 wounded. it was heavy fighting, and i was very afraid. i discovered a dead chechen four metres from me when i got up in the night. you see movies, you read books, you can imagine anything. but when you are in front of something, its not like the movies. we started out as 60 and came back 30, one in two people injured or killed. i was lucky.

as soon as it was light, i took pictures. this is the first thing i saw. the guy with the bandage on his head has lost his friends. he has fought all night long. i dont feel pity, but at the same time they took me with them and did everything to protect me. without them, i couldnt have done the story. i was the only witness. its very complicated.”

bosnia & herzegovnia - uzdol massacre

“blood is spattered high onto the ceiling of a central bosnian farmhouse. an elderly married couple had been sprayed at point blank range with high velocity machine gun fire in a grisly execution by bosnian serb forces in the village of uzdol, bosnia. their heads exploded instantly, spraying arterial blood onto the walls. the white fragments at the bottom left of the photograph are the shattered remains of the old couples skulls. although i was present when the bodies of the old couple were still lying on the bed, the image was far too horrific for anyone to publish and also, in my mind, quite unnecessary to photograph. however as i turned and was about to leave with the british united nations soldiers who had the awful task of cleaning up this ungodly horror, one of the young soldiers carrying the remains and i looked back at the wall and i knew i had the shot.”

what does space smell like?

its strange to think that the near vacuum of space could have a smell, and stranger still that humans atmospheric creatures can actually experience it. astronauts have consistently reported the same strange odour after lengthy space walks, bringing it back in on their suits, helmets, gloves and tools. its bitter, smoky, metallic smell—like seared steak, hot metal and arc welding smoke all rolled into one. NASA have asked a chemist, steve pearce, to reproduce the smell to use during acclimatization training, mapping out the likely chemistry using natural materials to mimic the odor for accuracy. its believed that the smell is caused by high energy vibrations in particles that mix with the air when brought inside. in the future, we might even recreate the smell of the moon, mars, mercury or any place in the universe, provided we have the right chemical information. in fact, we can even recreate the smell of the heart of the galaxy astronomers searching for animo acids in sagittarius B2, a vast dust cloud in the middle of the milky way, have reported that due to a substance called ethyl formate, it smells and tastes of raspberries and rum—much more pleasant than seared steak and metal.

eres ruso?

without an introduction or even so much as a hi she asked him a single question "eres ruso?". a silly question and a pretty face that plagued his mind for the days to come, a silly question and a pretty face to break the defensive barrier hes been ever so used to holding and guarding so dear. oh my, is this real? could the new feeling i harbor for her be real? against his better judgement he continued pursuing the pretty dame, hoping and wishing it might be true. but what if? what if im wrong, what if its just a silly hopeless feeling after all? is it "normal" to have such thoughts? he asked in his solace. si, claro que si SOY NORMAL! so very normal indeed.

but, what if im wrong? what if im just a fool with a crush he asked once more. he pushes such thoughts aside, and again in his solace he tells himself. atleast, atleast i know theres someone like me. a thought that made him smirk as he sat with a book and his luke warm coffee at his side, as he waits for the day for his pretty dame to come.

the human cost of the ipad

in the second of a new york times series about the global tech industry, charles duhigg and david barboza explore the often brutal working conditions at the factories where some of america’s most iconic high-tech devices are made.

in the last decade, apple has become one of the mightiest, richest and most successful companies in the world, in part by mastering global manufacturing. apple and its high-technology peers as well as dozens of other american industries have achieved a pace of innovation nearly unmatched in modern history.

however, the workers assembling iphones, ipads and other devices often labor in harsh conditions, according to employees inside those plants, worker advocates and documents published by companies themselves. problems are as varied as onerous work environments and serious sometimes deadly safety problems.

employees work excessive overtime, in some cases seven days a week, and live in crowded dorms. some say they stand so long that their legs swell until they can hardly walk. under age workers have helped build apple’s products, and the company’s suppliers have improperly disposed of hazardous waste and falsified records, according to company reports and advocacy groups that, within china, are often considered reliable, independent monitors.

more troubling, the groups say, is some suppliers disregard for workers’ health. two years ago, 137 workers at an apple supplier in eastern china were injured after they were ordered to use a poisonous chemical to clean iphone screens. within seven months last year, two explosions at ipad factories, including in chengdu, killed four people and injured 77. before those blasts, apple had been alerted to hazardous conditions inside the chengdu plant, according to a chinese group that published that warning.

UFO in baltic sea

remember the post about a weird object in the shape of the millennium falcon found through sonar at the bottom of the baltic sea? they finally sent divers down there and the plot thickens! they still dont know what it is but they know its not normal.

according to diver stefan hogeborn: “during my 20 year diving career, including 6000 dives, i have never seen anything like this. normally stones dont burn. i cant explain what we saw, and i went down there to answer questions, but i came up with even more questions. the object appeared more as a huge mushroom, rising 3-4 meters/10-13 feet from the seabed, with rounded sides and rugged edges. the object had an egg shaped hole leading into it from the top, as an opening. on top of the object they also found strange stone circle formations, almost looking like small fireplaces. the stones were covered in something resembling soot.”

a humble man

the dude reading the newspaper is keanu reeves, perhaps one of hollywoods most misunderstood actor. coming from a problematic family, his father walked in and out of his life at the tender age of 3 and was first arrested when keanu was 12 years of age for drug dealing, that a side his mother was also a stripper. his family moved to canada and there his mother divorced, married and remarried. keanu had several step dads.

one of his best and closest friends river phoenix died of an overdose, few months later his father was arrested again.

in 1999 his then girlfriend gave birth to his still born child, shortly after she too passed in a car accident. they were about to get married, since then keanu avoids serious relationships and having children of his own.

one of the few hollywood stars without a mansion, he once said: "i live in a flat, i have everything that i need at anytime, why choose an empty house?"

at one time his younger sister was diagnosed with leukemia, and at this time he donated 70% of his gains from "the matrix" to hospitals that treat and research the disease.

on one of his birthdays, he visited a candy shop where he purchased a cake and as he started eating alone he would offer some to fans that walked by.

he doesnt have bodyguards and he doesnt wear fancy clothing.

when he was asked about "sad keanu" he simply replied: "you need to be happy to live, i dont.”
